Meeting in college, Don and Cheryl married shortly after graduation and began successful careers in Charlotte, NC. As their careers began to grow so did their family as they welcomed the great gift of their three daughters, Stewart, Ellison, and Lindel.
Together Don and Cheryl experienced a call to ministry. After much prayer the decision was made and Don began studies for his master's degree from Columbia Theological Seminary. A fellowship to Westminster College and Cambridge University England followed, and was part of the journey to becoming Minister of Evangelism at the largest Presbyterian Church in the United States, Peachtree Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, Georgia.
While Don and Cheryl were teaching newlywed and engaged classes with great success, Don had a vision one night for building on the chemistry, spontaneity, and pure fun people experienced from their teaching and doing a class like a talk show. In February 2000 goodnews debuted. Never intending it to be a television program the first show was taped, then unbeknownst to the Barber's, a copy was forwarded to a local network, which took a chance and aired it. Overnight goodnews became the most talked about, popular, and award winning Christian program in Atlanta.
Over the past four years goodnews has grown and been blessed to cover events such as the Dove Awards, Stellar Awards, with invitations from Major League Baseball, the NBA, and NASCAR. In March of 2003, Don and Cheryl hosted from the "red carpet" and "backstage" at the 2003 Movieguide Awards in Los Angeles, California. The Movieguide Awards then aired nationally during prime-time on the PAX Television Network.
goodnews launched in 2003 as a fully independent ministry and television production company. In the coming months a national television agreement will bring what everyone in Atlanta is talking about, to all of the United States!
